Dear members,

I am pleased to present a Tuscan dinner featuring wines from the legendary vintage 2016 paired with the exciting cuisine of new fine-dining restaurant Eclipse, strategically located at the rooftop of Chinatown’s Yue Hwa Building. We will also be auctioning off some single bottles of well aged Italian wines from the society's cellar to members present at the dinner .

Michaela Morris of Decanter magazine describes the 2016 vintage in Tuscany as a five-star vintage , with wines showing extraordinary depth, detail and balance. The weather was ''warm but not excessive, with sufficient well timed precipitation and significant diurnal temperature differences. The 2016 vintage offers structured, ageworthy wines with profound depth, soaring acidity and plenty of drinking pleasure.''

With the kind support of Cornerstone wines, we will feature three wines from the 2016 vintage to give us a chance to discover more about this vintage -the tasting notes are from Wine Advocate:

Fossacolle Brunello Di Montalcino 2016 WA 95

Siro Pacenti Pelagrilli Brunello Di Montalcino DOCG 2016 WA 94
"The Siro Pacenti 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Pelagrilli is decidedly more focused on black fruit aromas rather than red fruit brightness, and it follows through with a healthy delivery of cedar, toasted spice, pencil shaving and campfire ash''

Canalicchio di Sopra Brunello Di Montalcino DOCG 2016 WA 95
"The Canalicchio di Sopra 2016 Brunello di Montalcino shows balance and symmetry with that difficult twofold delivery of power and elegance."

In addition , we will feature the La Rasina Riserva il Divasco from 2013, yet another year rated excellent for tuscany . We end with two wines from the society's cellar, both from another outstanding vintage, 2004 to gain an understanding of how well and gracefully Brunellos are able to age.

The wines are paired with the refined, yet exciting cuisine of Chef Samuel Quan, who is inspired by a marriage of his roots in European cuisine and his own Asian background. The restaurant serves a multitude of east-meets-west fusion delicacies made from Chef Sam’s own favourite ingredients. Prior to Eclipse, Chef Sam led the team at the Spanish-influenced restaurant Element on Tras Street located in Amara Hotel, where he was also named Apprentice Chef of the Year at the 2017 World Gourmet Summit. He has also had stints in the kitchens of Les Amis and Joel Robuchon, as well as the three Michelin-starred Aponiente in Spain.

The Silent Auction
Through the years, the society has accumulated a variety of bins end single bottle wines, all kept in professional storage . We plan to sell these bottles to members over several events in 2022. During this dinner , we will be selling off the Italian single bottles in a silent auction during the dinner with reserve prices based loosely on our historical cost.
