The President’s Dinner 2012
Sentosa Golf Club

Dear Members,

As the year draws to a close, we are proud to feature the best of the society’s cellar at its final event for the year.
We start the dinner with a personal favorite, the 2000 Comtes de Champagne from Taittinger. Antonio Galloni of Wine Advocate rates it 96 points and says –
‘The 2000 Brut Blanc de Blancs Comtes de Champagne is a huge wine bursting with ripe varietal fruit, smoke, ash, crushed rocks and slate. This is an unusual Comtes that deftly balances richness and power while maintaining considerable minerality.”
This is followed by a German dessert white wine from one of the finest riesling producers in the Mosel, the Dr Loosen Urziger Wurtzgarten Riesling Auslese 1998 which is paired with the foie gras dish, a nice break from the usual foie gras/ sauterne pairing.

In a stellar cast of wines, we feature next a trio of Bordeaux 2nd growths from one of the finest vintages of the 1960s, 1966.
1966 Bordeaux wine is the perfect example of an old school Bordeaux vintage. The high tannin levels and acidity have allowed these wines an extended life and a few wines have turned out much better than expected. While there is a sense of austerity in 1966 Bordeaux wine, several of the Left Bank wines from Pauillac, St. Julien and Margaux are better than anticipated and the strongest wines from the vintage were produced in the Left Bank.
Finally , for those who prefer a more full bodied palate, the cheese course is paired with magnums of one of the most unique wines from Chateauneuf du Pape in Southern Rhone. It features an almost equal proportion of the Mourvedre grape and Grenache, as well as various percentages of all the grapes allowed in the appellation. Beaucastel truly represents the highest levels of serious artisanal winemaking.
As always, please book early to avoid disappointment. Let me also take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy festive season. I thank you for your support this year and look forward to seeing you all in the new year.
