The International Wine and Food Society of Singapore will be holding its 59th AGM at Fire at 1-Atico at Ion Orchard on Saturday 30th March 2024. The AGM will be conducted at 6.30pm and a tasting and dinner will follow at 7.30pm.
My thanks to all members for your kind support in attending the society events organized in the past year. I look forward to your attendance at the AGM and at the dinner following the AGM.
2000 tasting and dinner
2024 being the year of the wood dragon, the dinner will feature 2 dragon vintages – red Bordeaux and Rhone wines from the great 2000 vintage (metal dragon) with a white Bordeaux from the 2012 vintage (water dragon) in contrast.
The 2000 Bordeaux wine vintage got off to a cold, wintery start and remained cool until July, at which point not one Bordeaux grower would have imagined that 2000 would be any better than an average Bordeaux vintage. However, the 3 months of perfect warm and sunny weather that followed resulted in a vintage with legendary status. 2000 Bordeaux wine was great from top to bottom as many chateaux in the smaller Bordeaux appellations also produced some of the best wines of their career. Similarly, 2000 was an excellent year for Rhone wines. The wines are concentrated, harmonious and super ripe - the Châteauneufs du Papes in particular are exceptional. The society is pleased to showcase a choice selection of Bordeaux and Rhone wines from this exceptional vintage at this dinner.
The wines will be paired with the bold and vibrant Argentinian asador cuisine of Fire Restaurant at Ion Orchard. Situated on the 55th Floor, diners will have a stunning view of the Singapore cityscape as we engage in an exciting exploration of dragon year vintages!
