Wakanui Grill Dining
 

Dear Members,

We are pleased to invite you to join us forour California Classics Dinner at Wakanui Grill Dining at Marina One. Wakanui has distinct parentage that is both unique and exciting. It first opened doors in Tokyo specializing in New Zealand beef and lamb and quickly became known as one of the must dine destinations for meats in the city. We are lucky to have Wakanui now in Singapore and you will definitely enjoy Chef Ryohei Kenyoshi’s masterful handling of meats from New Zealand specifically from Canterbury.

We will kick off with an apéritif served outside the restaurant in a lovely open sheltered area where you can enjoy views of the lovely harbor while sipping a lovely grower champagne by Dumangin.

Our first wine of the dinner will be a 2005 vintage chardonnay from the famed Chateau Montelena. This is a lovely white with notes of ripe peach and green apples on the nose. It has structure and is rich but is balanced off with the right amount of acidity with a soft oak finish.

The first two red wines of the evening focuses on American pinot noirs and presents a contrast in styles. The first is a 2007 Isabelle from Au Bon Climat and the second is a 2006 Pisoni by Miura. For lovers of burgundy, you will love the Isabelle with its enchanting perfume reminiscent of a Chambolle-Musigny.
There is a red fruit with layers of flavors including berries. The Pisoni is made by Miura whose name is derived from Don Eduardo Miura, a famous breeder of Spanish fighting bulls and connotes nobility, power and boldness. The Pisoni is not easy to find and we are pleased to present it so that you can experience its rich bold flavors, a full-bodied pinot noir with black fruit and layers of complexity with spice and liquorice.

The next pairing will feature a 2003 Bressler Cabernet Sauvignon and a 1999 Heitz Cellar Bella Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon. The Bressler is an elegant American style Cabernet with a nose of black currants and cherries and medium bodied flavors on the palate. The Bella Oaks is an elegant wine with notes of black cherries and a tinge of spice and mint. This is a wine that ages well, and we look forward to sharing this with you.

The final pairing is a Robert Mondavi 1997 Reserve Cabernet and a 1991 Beringer Private Reserve Cabernet, two bellweather Napa cabernets, each from heralded vintages. The Mondavi 1997 presents itself with notes of coffee and sweet spice on the nose. It has a lot of fruit on the palate with flavors
of black fruit and dark berries. The 1991 Beringer is rated 96 points by RP and is a rich powerful wine with vibrant black fruit, spice and licorice. This is one of the classic presentations of a classic Napa Cabernet with power and elegance.

We will have 40 seats for this event and, as usual, members will have 48 hours of priority in booking. This is a chance to taste some of the finer examples of American wine making and we are sure you will be impressed with the food under the superb handling of Chef Ryohei.

Note: Please park at B3/B4 near West Tower. Take a lift to the ground level and look for The Heart Lobby 1. From there take the lift to L4 and Wakanui will be right in front of the lift.
