The Society starts off the month of March with a Burgundy vs New World challenge dinner at Xi Yan.
The past few years have witnessed huge interest and stratospheric price increases for burgundy wines , both red and white. Aggravated by small crops yields and high demand, it has become increasing difficult to find reasonably priced, good quality burgundies to enjoy.The challenge is to find up and coming makers before their fame ( and wine prices) take off. At the same time, new world wineries have made great strides in making their wines more ‘burgundian’ and elegant, becoming a viable alternative choice.
It is with all this in mind that we have collaborated with Claret - E , a London wine merchant to craft a dinner featuring 5 burgundies and two well respected new world wines as a comparison. Guy Butterwick from Claret -E will lead us through the selection to aid our appreciation of the featured up & coming producers from Burgundy and the new world.
For the whites, a pair of Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru from Domaine Michel Niellon and Domaine Amiot from the much heralded 2014 vintage are to be compared with a Kumeu River Coddington Chardonnay 2015. For the reds, we feature wines from Domaine Serene, Bruno Clavelier and end with a flourish with the grand cru Mazoyere Chambertin 2011 and 2015 from Domaine Taupenot Merme.
The wines will be ably matched with the the innovative cuisine of Xi Yan Private Dining. In 2005, Xi Yan opened its doors as a private dining restaurant at Craig Road in Singapore, serving contemporary Asian cuisine with an emphasis on quality and creativity. Founded by HK celebrity chef Jacky Yu, Xi Yan believes in the concept of food as art, appealing not only to our sense of taste, but also to our sight through creative presentation.
Winning the title for ‘Most Creative Menu’ by Wine and Dine Magazine for 2014 Top Restaurant in Singapore is testament to Xi Yan’s commitment towards creative and quality food.
