May - the month of flowers, the Society will be crossing over the India Ocean to Africa where we explore the wines of South Africa. We are glad to present to you the Hand Crafted wines from Bizoe Wines and Old World Wine of Croydon Vineyard Estate located in Cape Winelands.
Bizoe wines is founded in 2008 with Bizoe meaning little kiss in French, is the handiwork of Rikus Neethling, a garagiste winemaker. High quality wines are part of his philosophy – “Less is more” which truly reveals what he believes in. Bizoe’s production volume is small with less than 3000 bottles
for the Henriëtta and app. 4500 bottles for Estalét. His wines since debut have received a crop of gold medals and 90+ points from Wine Spectator and International Wine Cellar’s Steve Tanzer. In 2015, he took charge of making the Croydon wines after moving into Croydon Vineyard Estate between Stellenbosch and Somerset West in 2011 which contains some 8ha of vineyards where all home owners are shareholders. Croydon's Covenant range showcases superior wines from single cultivars. These wines are created from the purest grapes of the season, and left to mature into well-balanced and full-bodied wines. For some of the Covenant range wines, Rikus follows Roman maturation processes in terra-cotta amphoras used by Roman wine makers while striving for "old world" class results.
For this event, we get to taste Rikus’ 3rd vintage of 2010 Bizoe Wines Henriëtta Semilion Sauvignon Blanc & 2010 Bizoe Estalét Shiraz and his recent vintages. We also have the honour to have him personally tutor us through his wines to increase our understanding and appreciation. Due thanks to the wine merchant TTG for this collaboration to make this possible.
We will be holding this event at La Pepa, a cosy restaurant along the bustling Gemmill Lane showcasing food in true Spanish spirit, including Tapas, Pescado, Carne and Paella.
