Dear Members,
As the year draws to a close, we end the month of December with two outstanding events, the Angelo Gaja dinner on the 1st and the Presidents dinner on the 7th.
As in previous years, we feature the best of our society cellar in the President’s Dinner. In looking at our society cellar- list to find suitable wines to match the menu, I am reminded of the brilliance and foresight of our past cellarmasters who have put their heart and soul into finding great wines at the best possible prices for our cellar. It is through their industry and foresight that we as a society own Chateau Lafite Rothschild 2001 magnums at a modest $550 , the Italian Bordeaux- inspired Supertuscan, Ornellaia 98 at around $100 and the 1964 Gruaud Larose for less than $150.
My thanks go to Graham Hayward, Toh Hsien Min and Glenn Chin Chao, our past and present cellarmasters for this happy state of affairs. I am also grateful for the opportunity to have contribute as a past cellarmaster for 3 years. With the society’s policy of costing the wines featured in dinners at historical cost irrespective of when they were purchased, our society events cannot be duplicated at the same pricing once such wines are consumed.
The theme of this year’s president’s dinner is aptly then – ‘the jewels in our cellar’. I hope you will agree with me that the society has a superb cellar with some irreplaceable gems. From grand cru red burgundy of the 1995 vintage, the most popular of the 1st growth Bordeaux, Lafite Rothschild to a rare 1964 Gruaud Larose. Do join us for dinner on the 7th to end the year together on a high note.
As always, please book early to avoid disappointment. Members will be given 48 hours priority in booking.
Let me also take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy festive season. I thank you for your support this year and look forward to seeing you all in the new year.
