This coming month,
our Society kicks off the first
of the series of good value and
interesting events for which we
are NOT going to charge a premium
for members to introduce guests
to the Society, with a view of
exposing them to our activities
and hospitality.
A very special thanks to our member,
Ms Flora Loh representing Top
Wines Pte Ltd, who together with
our Treasurer, Mr. Robert Lee,
they have put together this very
unique event for the enjoyment
of our members and friends and
it is envisaged that all participants
will have a wonderful time and
experience at this event. For
this event, we will be fine dining
at the beautiful Ristorante Bologna
at the Marina Mandarin Hotel.
The best of Italian cuisine can
be savoured at Ristorante Bologna,
one of the first Italian restaurants
to open in Singapore in 1987.
With a renowned reputation that
has kept patrons coming back after
all these years, be treated to
an amazing spread of authentically
prepared Italian foods by Chef
Carlo Marengoni and his team of
chefs.
And we are proud to present the
winery Cantina Zaccagnini from
Italy, Abruzzo for the dinner,
a winery that believes A Wine
is a Man’s Art. To make
the night even more special, we
are honoured to have Mr. Marcello
Zaccagnini, Owner of Cantina Zaccagnini
to join us and fill us with insights
on the winery and his wines!
So hesitate no more, make your
reservation today.
The Boscaini family have been
the owners of the Masi vineyards
for six generations. Masi produces
one of the cult wines from this
region of Italy.
Masi vineyards in the Venetian
area are located only in the historic
and most prestigious viticultural
zones. The recent purchase of
the "Poderi del Bello Ovile"
estate (about 75 hectares) in
the Orcia Valley on the ed ges
of Montalcino marks the return
of the Alighieri family to Tuscany.
Masi technicians have helped in
the planting of local grape varieties
(Sangiovese, Canaiolo, and Colorino)
to make two Supertuscan wines,
planned to begin with the 2007
vintage. Masi Tupungato: Argentinian
soul, Venetian style.
Masi chose the Tupungato valley,
located in Argentina's Mendoza
region on the strength of this
belief. There, the "Vigneti
La Arboleda" winery grows
not only Malbec, Argentina's most
famous grape, but also Veronese-based
varietals such as Corvina and
Corvinone.

Wine making Amarone is the product
of the ancient wine making method
called
"appassimento" (drying
of the grapes). At the end of
September or
beginning of October the best
clusters are laid on bamboo racks
in the
lofts of the farmhouse on the
vineyard, were large windows allow
a
natural ventilation. By the middle
of February the grapes weigh 35-40%
less. They are partially affected
by botrytis ("noble rot")
due to the cooler
climate of the high hills.
