I am pleased to
present to you our event for the
month of July 2009, brought to
you by our Cellarmaster, Joyce
Chang in conjunction with Crystal
Wines. For this event, we will
all get to experience and taste
a vertical of the world renowned
wine, the Almaviva.
Almaviva Nite @ Capella
In 1997, Baroness Philippine de
Rothschild, Chairman of the Advisory
Board of Baron Philippe de Rothschild
SA, and Eduardo Guilisasti Tagle,
Chairman of Viña Concha
y Toro S.A., sealed a partnership
agreement with a view to create
an exceptional Franco-Chilean
wine called Almaviva.
Almaviva, located in the Maipo
Valley, produces approximately
15,000 cases a year of a consistently
outstanding blend of Cabernet
Sauvignon and Carmenère
from Puente Alto. Almaviva is
the result of a joint venture
between two wine stalwarts –
Viña Concha y Toro in Chile
and Baron Philippe de Rothschild
of Bordeaux, France. Both founders
were convinced that a world class
wine could be made in Chile, so
they acquired a vineyard called
Puente Alto. Forty hectares of
this over 20-year-old vineyard
were reserved for the production
of grapes to make Almaviva.
A felicitous encounter between
two cultures - Chile offers its
soil, its climate and its vineyards,
while France contributes its winemaking
savoir-faire and traditions; the
result is an exceptionally elegant
and complex wine. Considered a
"Primer Orden" –
the Spanish equivalent of the
French "Premier Grand Cru
Classé" or First Growth,
Almaviva is the only non-Bordeaux
wine to be handled by the famed
French negotiants and marketed
by them alongside grand châteaux
wine.
For this event, we will be enjoying
the vertical vintage years of
2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005 &
2006 of the Almaviva. Join us
for a special evening with Mr
Diego Garay, Commercial Director
of Almaviva as he leads us through
these 6 vintages.
