The Elegant Brunellos of San Filippo
at Garibaldi
 

The Society is pleased to feature the elegant Brunellos from San Filippo as our second event for the month of November 2014. We are very honoured to have the owner, Roberto Giannelli, introduce the magnificent wines of his estate to us.

San Filippo, originally founded in 1972, is a small but prestigious winery in Montalcino, one of Montalcino’s stars. The estate is superbly situated close to Biondi Santi’s Il Greppo, the original Brunello vineyard that launched Montalcino’s legend. Since acquiring San Filippo in the early 2000s, Roberto Giannelli has completely restored the vineyards, renovated the old winery, and transformed San Filippo into one of Brunello’s most exciting and highly regarded estates. With the assistance of renowned oenologist Paolo Caciorgna, San Filippo produces small quantities of Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino from its 11 hectares of estate vines. San Filippo’s wines are well recognised by international connoisseurs and have received ratings of up to 96/100 from Wine Spectator and Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. The estate’s flagship wines are Le Lucere, a single-vineyard Brunello which shows a unique and almost Burgundian richness and texture, and Le Lucere Riserva, a Brunello Riserva made only in the best years.

Roberto Giannelli will be flying in many of the wines directly from the winery specially for this event. This dinner will feature not only vintages of Le Lucere Brunello and
Le Lucere Brunello Riserva but also the original winery’s 1979 Brunello Riserva.
In addition, Roberto Giannelli will provide us with a “preview” of his estate’s yet-to-be-released 2010 Le Lucere Brunello. Many consider 2010 to be on par with the greatest vintages in Montalcino.

These elegant and exquisite wines will be paired with the fine Italian cuisine of Executive Chef Roberto Galetti from Garibaldi Italian Restaurant & Bar.

Originally from Brescia, Italian-born Executive Chef and Garibaldi’s Managing Director, Roberto Galetti, was lured into the culinary world where his passion for food and the industry was recognized at an early age. Roberto Galetti went on to perfect his culinary skills at the prestigious Culinary Institute Caterina De Medici in Italy, where he gained knowledge of traditional Italian cuisine to develop his own unique style and flair. Over the years, Roberto Galetti travelled around the world, working with famous chefs in reputable hotels and restaurants. In 2003, he moved on to set up his own restaurant in Singapore – Garibaldi Italian Restaurant & Bar.

Garibaldi Italian Restaurant & Bar has since won multiple awards and is hailed as one of Singapore’s most popular and respected fine-dining restaurant, offering a wide selection of authentic Italian cuisine.
