The Wines of DOMENICO CLERICO at OSO Ristorante
OSO Ristorante

Dear Members,

For the month of October, we are proud to host Mr Domenico di Luccio, the Asian sales & marketing representative of Domenico Clerico, whose estate is situated in the heart of Barolo – Monforte d’Alba. Mr. Luccio will present the wines of Domenico Clerico, who is acknowledged as one of the most talented and well-respected winemakers in all of Barolo.

Domenico Clerico is a legend in Barolo and he staunchly believes that the quality of the vines is the sole factor determining a wine’s potential. He regards production techniques as tools of the trade as opposed to intrinsic components of the wine. It is no wonder that Domenico Clerico champions the virtues of “terroir” by focusing on single-vineyard wines that express the merits of the sites. His outstanding vineyards are 3 of the greatest crus of Monforte: Ginestra, Pajana and Mosconi. Known also for his relentless pursuit of quality, the average yields of his vineyards are among the lowest in the region.

The first vintage produced was the 1982 Ciabot Mentin, whose site is part of the Ginestra hill, situated over 450 metres above sea level and is one of the highest hilltops for nebbiolo vineyards. Since its debut, Ciabot Mentin had been consistently one of the Barolo appellation’s finest.

Situated close to the Ciabot Mentin is the Pajana, which made its debut in 1990. These two vineyards are situated very close to each other but the wines are very different, showing the complexity of the Langhe region. We will have the opportunity to taste the difference for ourselves.

In 1995, Domenico Clerico acquired a vineyard on the Mosconi hill with a S-SE exposure, which included “old clone” vines dating back to 1947. This vineyard is used in the production of Percristina, which has 5 years of aging before bottling – 3 years in 100% new barriques and 2 years in tank. For this event, we also have the privilege of tasting the Percristina 2000 which is rated 100 points by Wine Spectator.

Paired with the outstanding wines of Domenico Clerico are the creations of international award-winning chef, Diego Charini, of OSO Ristorante. OSO Ristorante is a collaboration between Stephane Colleoni and Chef Diego Charini, and it needs little introduction, as it has long established itself in Singapore’s culinary scene for its excellent Italian cuisine.

We are grateful to Cellarmaster Wines and Mr Domenico di Luccio, representing Domenico Clerico, for making this event possible.

Members will have priority over guests during the first forty-eight (48) hours after the sending out of this bulletin. Please book early to avoid disappointment.
