In 1976, a British wine merchant by the name of Steve Spurrier organized a blind tasting of French and Californian wines. This tasting became incredibly famous because for the first time in wine history, French wine's exclusive superiority in wine quality was shaken and stirred. This tasting saw Californian wine being rated the best in each of the category of top quality Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay; Stag's Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon and Chateau Montelena 1973 Chardonnay took the 1st position respectively. This event was commemorated and celebrated 30 years later with a simultaneous tasting of the same wines in Napa and London. Californian wine came in tops again with Ridge 1971 Monte Bello taking the 1st position, followed by Stag's Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon.
On July 9 2010, Friday (in between July 4th- US Independence's Day and July 14th – Bastille Day), our Society will have our own little Judgment of Paris in Singapore. It will be an evening of blind tasting excitement and fun as we make our own judgment. We are able to feature the wines from two of the California wineries from the 1976 tasting. The choice of the restaurant is also considered for this dinner event. Matt Baker, Chef of Krish The Restaurant, is an American with a little French ancestry and the dinner menu for the evening will be of European nature.
With only 40 seats available, we proudly
