Dear members,
We have a special event in July showcasing award-winning Pinot Noir from Domaine-Thomson
in Central Otago, New Zealand.
This
is the first time Domaine-Thomson are showcasing their wines in Singapore, and is a testament to IWFS constantly striving to bring new experiences for its members beyond what is available in the local market.
Domaine-Thomson
has been producing Pinot Noir since 2003 and is a true expression of Central Otago’s climate and landscape.
They
also have 80 to 100 year-old vines in Gevrey-Chambertin, Burgundy. Both vineyards are farmed organically and the wine is typically kept in 100% new French oak barrels for 18 months.
Their
signature ‘Surveyor Thompson’ Pinot is named after John Turnbull Thomson, the great-great grandfather of Domain-Thomson’s David Hall-Jones. John was a surveyor in the 19th century who developed infrastructure projects in the far east, particularly Singapore.
He returned to the UK briefly, before heading to New Zealand in 1856, where he was appointed chief surveyor of Otago.
We begin
our event with an aperitif of sparkling Cloudy Bay
Pelorus
that subtly combines fresh and fruity Chardonnay notes with rich and
savoury hints of Pinot Noir.
Then
our first Pinot is a pair from Domaine-Thomson’s ‘Explorer’ series, with their Single Vineyard Central Otago Pinot Noir 2017 & 2018.
Next
we have the award winning ‘Surveyor Thompson’ Single Vineyard Central Otago Pinot Noir 2015 and 2016. Their Surveyor
Thomson 2015 pinot noir, won the Champion Pinot
Noir and the "Riedel Wine of the Show" at the 2019 NZ Organic Wine Awards. They won the trophy for the best overall wine among all of the trophy winners for the different red and white grape varieties. The judges commented: "A bold, powerful Otago Pinot Noir,
complex on the nose and the palate, ripe stonefruit, spice and toasty oak. Beautiful now but will further develop over the next 6-7 years. A wine that impressed all of our judge's as our standout wine for 2019."
We
then continue the vertical tasting with a ‘Surveyor Thompson’ Single Vineyard Central Otago Pinot Noir 2014, before moving onto their special ‘Rows 1-37’ Single Vineyard (Single Clone) Central Otago Pinot Noir 2014.
To
finish this special Pinot event we have ‘Surveyor Thompson’ Single Vineyard Central Otago Pinot Noir 2013 & 2009.
To
pair with this award-winning Pinot, we have a special 6 course menu with a mix of Japanese - French cuisine, created by Japanese Chef Tomine Nobuaki from Pixy
located on Mohamed Sultan Road. Chef Tomine Nobuaki
was born in Japan and at the age of 13 he spent his youth in San Francisco, where he started his journey with a cooking course and learned the essence of French cuisine at the “La Baie” of the Osaka Ritz Carlton Hotel.
Later,
he worked as a sous chef at a small luxury hotel Sankara Hotel & Spa Yakushima, Kagoshima Prefecture. He was then appointed as Executive Chef of Pixy Bar & Cuisine in January 2019. Pixy offers contemporary Japanese - French cuisine with an emphasis on sourcing
quality, natural, sustainable and local ingredients.
Domaine-Thomson
have generously offered to sponsor the wines for the event and they will have a representative present to talk about the wines on the night.
Please
do sign up early for this special evening, as usual Members will have priority for booking places in the first 48 hours, as there is only capacity for 30 pax for this event.
